FAIR MARKET VALUE BENCHMARK REPORT

2022 Archbow Specialty Pharmacy Services Fair Market Value Benchmark Report

Leverage the experience and relationships of Archbow Consulting to educate your teams and gain insights into current and future trends.

In today’s healthcare distribution marketplace, legal and regulatory standards around Bona Fide Service Fees (BFSF) are gaining increased scrutiny. Additionally, ambiguity for defining BFSF and their corresponding Fair Market Values (FMV) is only  increasing due to a number of ongoing factors.

It's critical for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Specialty Pharmacies to have documented FMV determinations available and visible in their distribution agreements. Furthermore, the values established should be routinely updated (recommended annually).

Leverage the experience and relationships of Archbow Consulting to educate your teams and gain insights into current and future trends.

Archbow Methodology

  • Survey conducted in September 2022

  • 28 organizations queried including 18 manufacturers and 10 specialty pharmacies

  • Observations and insights across 60+ services

  • Cost-plus method applied

  • Findings benchmarked to Archbow’s annual survey data to provide objective data points for clients requiring such services

Key Themes Include:

  • Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Specialty Pharmacy have very different perceptions of what is a Core Service and an Enhanced Service offering.

  • Many Manufacturers are not limiting their specialty pharmacy network size—the majority having 6 or more Specialty Pharmacies in their network.

  • Basic Rx level (Tier 1) data is readily available to Manufacturers. However, due to the cost to retrieve that data, costs are incurred so Pharma should not presume the basic data is always a core service (no cost offering).

  • Specialty Pharmacies are not providing the deep robust analytic reports and often this data cannot be easily integrated with other data sets for analyses.

  • Comparing the Archbow Benchmark Survey Data with the National Salary data on a Healthcare Program Manager role, it appears Specialty Pharmacy and Manufacturers report they are paying 29% ($8,247 vs. $6,391) more per month than the national average salary for a similar role.
